Double Win for FRITZ!Box in ComputerBild Test One in two households now has a fast DSL connection. That was reason enough for the German magazine ComputerBild to have a closer look at twelve of the WLAN routers currently available. AVM was represented by its two top products FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 and FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170. Following rigorous weeks of testing in two test labs, ComputerBild was able to identify the cream of the crop. FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 received the highest marks in the test field and was named test winner. FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 came in second and was named best value. Two AVM products were represented on the podium with this double win.
Only three of the twelve routers received a rating of “good.” Half of the routers tested were rated only “satisfactory” or “poor.” The magazine editors’ main critique: “WLAN unencrypted ex-works, susceptible to radio interference, English-only operation, vulnerabilities leave routers open to hackers.” The full test results are available in the 06/2008 issue of ComputerBild.
The Best All-in-One Box on the Market The two FRITZ!Box products were able to win over the testers. FRITZ!Box 7270 is the only router that combines a DSL modem with the fast WLAN N standard. And as a telephone exchange, the FRITZ!Box is almost perfect according to the editors. “Fritz Box Fon WLAN 7270 received the best marks in telephony. It has connections for analog and ISDN telephony and a base for wireless telephony, all in a single device.” The 7270’s fast USB 2.0 connection and the low susceptibility to interference from other WLAN N routers in the vicinity also contributed to the router’s win. But it takes more than technical features to come out on top: “The winning router, Fritz Box Fon WLAN 7270, has the right combination of performance and equipment.” The editors summed it up: “There is no better all-in-one DSL box currently on the market.”
New Level of Performance The tried and tested FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 also had an excellent showing. Thanks to the free firmware update, FRITZ!Box 7270 has reached a “new level of performance.” The “good WLAN performance” was another plus. FRITZ!Box 7270 is equipped according to the WLAN G standard and scores additional points with its ability to be used as a WLAN repeater. FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 came in second behind FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 and was also named best value.
This double ComputerBild win adds to the long list of FRITZ!Box wins in trade magazine tests. FRITZ!Box 7170 has won every comparative test so far, and FRITZ!Box 7270 has been ranked number 1 in every test since it was launched last autumn.
